Today's Catholic Daily Readings  Gospel:  Luke 10: 25-37
helping hand
One phrase jumps out from today's gospel which is the story of the Rich Young Man. "Master, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Notice what the young man says, what must I do? In this age of consumerism and self centered thinking, the young man asks the right question. Life is not a matter of having, or accumulating, but of doing. We must do the will of God, not talk about it or think about it. So much of our life now is focused on what we have or think of ourselves or of what others think of us. We live in a world of having and having it now. The idea of wanting to do God's will is alien to us.

This question is one we should ask of ourselves every day....good master, what must I do today to inherit eternal life. And the answer is always the same.....do what it says in the second part of the gospel, the story of the Good Samaritan, help your neighbour. The neighbour God puts in our way is the person, white, black or yellow, that God puts in our way. Then we shall know exactly what to do....
