The people ask for a sign, something like the manna in the desert that Moses gave them. Jesus reminds them that Moses did not give them manna, his Father did. And he promise new "true" bread...and then he goes on to say, "I am the bread of life!" and if we beleive this we shall never be hungry of thirsty.
Jesus is setting out now on his teaching about himself as the bread of life. Each day of this week we learn more and more of what Jesus wants us to realise; He himself is the spiritual food that will feed us for our journey, the answer to the riddle of the bread and wine offered to Abraham by Melchisadeck. But will the people hear him? Do we hear him....and hearing, do we believe?
