First Reading; Isaiah 40:1-11 Reflection; We continue with the joyful theme of Isaiah as the prophet foretells that the Lord is coming with power, his arm subduing all things to him. Imagine the poor Jews reading this and thinking that the Messiah was going to be mighty in power and strength. They would and did expected the Messiah to restore Israel to its former glory.
The Lord is a joyful message. Our sins are atoned for, our punishment is taken away. There is a joyful message in all this that the Lord is coming and he shall redeem us from all our inequities. Our part, according to Isaiah, is to prepare a path in the wilderness. Is our heart the wilderness he is speaking of? Are our mood swings the causes of the valleys that we inhabit? Let us make ourselves ready!
