Gospel of Luke 5:12-16 Reflection; The church continues this whole theme of "showing" who Jesus is. Today Luke demonstrates Jesus' power over health and the natural world with the healing of a leper. Lepers were unclean, outcasts, the walking dead. Jesus walks among the dead and heals them. This is the great spiritual significance of healing the leper.
And to show that he has come to fulfill the Law, Jesus tells the healed man to go to the priests and do what the Law prescribes. In this short passage Jesus shows himself as a healer, a person who can bring the living dead back to life, and as the man who fulfills the Law. As we approach the end of Christmastide, we should now appreciate what is so special about this child who has come into the world. We should be anticipating the story of his life which shall unfold in the coming weeks of Ordinary Time.
