Today we have one of those short gospels that come along every now and then and that at first sight might seem to say very little.
"Happy the womb that bore you etc" says a woman to Jesus and he replies that those who hear the word of God and keep it are happier.
The Word of God is all that is important; everything else flows from it. To hear the word in all its richness is the source of all joy, nothing can compare to it. This is what Jesus wants to get across. It is not that human joy is not good, but the supernatural joy of God far outstrips it.
Being human we always will fall back into the pursuit of human delights, seeking affirmation and recognition, but these are only secondary. Jesus and the seeking of his Word should be the centre of our lives.
Today's readings today call us to remember that we are loved and accepted just as we are - troubles, insecurities, doubts and all. We are called to have the faith of Mary; we should let that resonate in our hearts that we are all children of God.
We are all called in our faith to love and serve the Lord, to believe in what God reveals to us through His Word.
