Gospel of Mark 1:29-39 Reflection: In the first reading today Paul tells us that Jesus was totally human and became human so that he could truly be our high priest and could represent us before God. Paul also says another very comforting thing for us; "Because Jesus himself has been through temptation he is able to help others who are tempted." Then in the Gospel today, Matthew uses a phrase that should speak clearly to us all. First he healed Simon's mother in law, then he healed the sick of the village and in the morning he heads off alone to pray. When the disciples find him Peter says,

Jesus went off to a lonely place and prayed there.
"Everybody is looking for you!" We all seek God. We may not know it, we may seek money, power or prestige, but in seeking them we have made them our god. We have made idols of them. Every human and man-made idol always lets us down. That is why we can say that only Jesus fulfills all our dreams and in him we have life, because he is above being human, he is the infinite God who can fulfill all needs. Simon was speaking prophetically when he said that everyone is looking for you....and it still applies today!
