The gospel which began Sunday continues today. This is the story of Jesus being the Good Shepherd and opens with the statement, "I am the good shepherd." John, in a reference to the passion and death of Jesus, tells us that the good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep. In this way John tells us the strength of God's love for us. To Jesus, this idea of saving man from sin is something that he (Jesus) is absolutley committed to not something which he does as a job, like a hired hand. He goes even further and tells us, "I know my own, and my own know me!" Here he speaks of our responce of faith. If we accept the Word of God, faith takes root and we recognise Jesus for who he is.....and he brings us into his circle of friends; we become part of his flock, his focus of care, seen and acknowledged by the Son of God. There is a wonderful promise here, something about our dignity as children of God.....let the idea flow into you....Jesus knows you as his own!!
