Today is a big feast in the Order of St Francis. This is the day in 1224 AD on which St Francis received the marks of the Passion on his body. Francis was making a retreat from Aug 15 to Sept 29, the feast of St Michael the Archangel, when on the 17th Sept he was asked by the Lord if there was anything he wanted. Francis replied, "Lord, I would like to know your love better and to understand something of your suffering during the Passion". The record of Francis' life shows he was granted a knowledge of God's love and he also received the Stigmata, the marks of the nails on Jesus' hands, feet and side. Francis had these on his body until he died on Oct 3, 1226, aged only 43. The order he founded has become one of the greatest in the Church.
