Reading I: Judges 11:29-39a
Responsorial: Psalms 40:5, 7-8a, 8b-9, 10
Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14
Israel had been called to a feast with God but the people for their own selfish reasons had refused to come to the feast. Since they had rejected the offer, the king (God), would offer their place to others, the Gentiles. It is the viciousness of the people of Israel in refusing the offer from God that stikes me as strange.
How can they and we nowadays reject God when we are constantly invited to the wedding feast? We are strange creatures, and human nature has a way of wanting to be independent of God and seek other things rather than our God, who has our genuine welfare in mind. We look for God in all sorts of places.....ignoring the wedding feast we have been invited too.....
