The people, like mothers and fathers in every generation, bring the children to see the holy man. The apostles consider them a burden to the Lord but Jesus says to let them near.
Everyone loves children, none more so than Jesus. He says the kingdom of heaven belongs to "such as these."
Only a childlike trust in God can see Jesus as he really is. The smart people laugh at the idea of God being man. A child simply takes these things on faith. The wise of the world see forgiveness and love as weakness; the child lives and gives these things everyday of their lives. There is no one as forgiving as a child.
We must make an effort to love and see the world like a child sees it. Experiences, often bitter, make us harsh, but we try daily to let go of some of the pain and allow Jesus in to our hearts and heal us. Then we can learn to love and trust again, just as when we were little children. It can be done!
