Today's Catholic Daily Readings: Luke 12:39-48
Although this piece of writing by Luke appears to be very practical and full of common sense, there is a much deeper message contained in it; the Kingdom of God and all that pertains to it must be taken very seriously. Jesus states that the life of relationship with God is the most important thing in our lives and that although we have to do our worldly work we must base our whole life on the things of the kingdom. There are not two separate lives, my weekday life and my Sunday life. There is one life, the life that leads to God, and everything else must be directed towards this. What really shows through in this passage is the way Jesus can take ordinary everyday issues such as protecting ourselves from burglars, and turn them into messages about the kingdom.
