Feast of John Fisher and Thomas More
Both men opposed Henry's claim to be the head of the Church in England and were imprisoned in the Tower of London. While a prisoner John Fisher was elevated to Cardinal by pope Paul III. After show trials in which witnesses were paid to lie, some of these witnesses were friends of the men wishing to gain the King's favour, both men were executed in 1535, Fisher on June 22 and More on July 6th.
Thomas More is also famous for his writings on politics and morals in civil life. His most famous work is the book Utopia.
I wonder how many of our famous politicians today would have the moral principles of St Thomas More?
