Today we have the parable of the sower, one of scriptures great stories. Jesus likens himself to a farmer sowing seed, he scatters it everywhere. The first point to notice is that in the time of Jesus a farmer did not sow like this. Seed was scarce and was planted one at a time.
Jesus is speaking about God, the Spirit and himself. God sows liberally. He throws out his love upon the earth with wonderful generosity, abundance. It is we who distort it. Everyone catches the seed of God, the prompting of the Holy Spirit or the quiet call of God in our heart.
The question is how do we respond. Do we respond with the same generous spirit or do we respond begrudgingly? Well,at least the seed keeps falling. Perhaps we need to till the soil with a bit of prayer and fasting!
