In today's gospel, Matthew records speech by Jesus to the chief priests. He tells a story about people being invited to a wedding. The chief priests fully understand who Jesus is talking about in this story. Jesus is saying that the pharisees and Jews will not come to the wedding feast, that is, they will not enter the kingdom, because they have set their hearts on other things.
Jesus does not miss them. He is direct in his speech and his message; the kingdom is here, enter it or leave it, it is your choice. Jesus leaves us free at all times to choose, but choose we must. Our actions, prompted by the Holy Spirit shall be our judge.
A hundred little decisions a day tell us whether we are moving towards the kingdom or away from it. We know when we are doing wrong and we know when we are doing right; it is that wee voice within our heart we hear. That's the way God made us.....and there'll be no slipping into the wedding feast without the wedding garment.
The wedding garment is the clear conscience of a person who has obeyed the word of God in his heart!
