GOSPEL REFLECTION: And so we come to the end of the Sermon on the Mount. There is a very interesting phrase at the end of this chapter which says so much about Jesus and is so easy to miss....."Jesus had now finished what he wanted to say" This phrase tells us that Jesus was always in control of what he was doing. He never let anything happen that he did not want to happen. And he was always able to use every situation to teach. Jesus had a plan, and he stuck to it. He is and was Lord and he chose when and what he did. This is crucial to understanding Jesus. He is absolute Lord of all. That is part of the reason his teaching made such an impression on the people; he knew what he wanted to say, he understood what he taught, and his life reflected what he taught. can we say the same?
