These days leading up to the Ascension are filled with glorious readings and marvellous promises from the Lord. Today is no exception. However, at the beginning of this gospel Jesus tells us that the person who loves him shall keep his commandments. This is the mark of the disciple; committment to Jesus and what he says. But Jesus promises that anyone who loves him shall be loved by the Father and that Jesus shall show himself to him. He goes even further, if we love Jesus and keep his word we shall be loved by the Father and both Jesus and the Father shall come and make our home with us. This indwelling of God is one of the great mysteries of the living spirit of God within us. Here Jesus promises that we really shall be "Temples of the Holy Spirit" and the "the kingdom is within." These promises are meaningless, nonsense - if we do not see them with the eyes of faith! But if we accept them how wonderful they are!
