Today's gospel is about attitudes, the attitude we take towards God in our hearts. If we try to do God's will and if we are obedient to the call of God in our hearts then God shall honour our commitment and show interest in our affairs. God shall keep us on the right path and through the odd wee nudge and thought shall make sure we don't stray too much.
For the man who lives his life as if God shall never return, does not exist or believes that God does not see what happens in the world, God shall leave him to his own devices. The world is a harsh place for such self sufficient people, life becomes a jungle where the fittest survive. And all God does is wait for us to come back. he does not force but he gives us plenty of opportunity to repent, or in the word of the psalmist, "think of God's patience as your opportunity to repent."
Jesus is once again telling us that life is about choices. Most importantly it is about our choices as regards him.
