We all have friends. But for our emotional and mental well-being, we need what the medical people call "intimates." The psychologists and doctors say that we need two or three people in our lives with whom we can share everything and before whom we can take down all the masks we wear for the world and completely be ourselves.
Jesus had Peter, James and John.
Tradition tells us that James and John were cousins of the Lord. They were with him at all the big events, the raising of Jairus' daughter, the transfiguration and the agony in the garden.
Jesus' friendship with these men show the humanity of Jesus in an important way. He needed friends like the rest of us. He needed people he could trust.
It is beautiful how the humanity of Jesus always shines through!
