Reading I: Exodus 34:29-35
Responsorial: Psalm 103:6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13
Gospel: Matthew 13:36-43
Today, we have that short catchy gospel about the pearl of great value and the treasure hidden in the field. The farmer finds a hidden treasure, sells all he has and then buys the field. The merchant does the same with the pearl. What is the treasure? We all think at once of the Kingdom of God. But for most of us that is something in the future. What is the treasure we can experience here and now?
The love of Christ.
When we begin to feel and know the love of Jesus we understand that it is a treasure worth letting all else go....power, prestige, persuit of money etc. In Jesus we have a treasure worth more than this world. And it is available now, not at some vague point in the future!
