Today we have the parable of the darnel, where an enemy sows bad seed among the good. I have heard and read many interpretations of this parable but the one I like best is where I can apply the parable to my own life.
In each of us there is good and bad. It is part of being human. All through life we have this seemingly unending battle of what is good and what is bad in us. This parable advises us to go on growing in God, ignoring the evil thoughts etc that go on in our head. In this way we shall continue 'til the end of our lives, when God shall sort all the issues out for us.
This parable is a call to moderation. It is a call to treat ourselves not too harshly and to allow God to work in us over the years and to allow him to remove the darnel when he sees fit.
For us the hard part is waiting. We want to be perfect now. Life does not work like that and all of this, our broken humanity, is part of the cross we have to carry.
