Today Jesus speaks of the persecution that his followers can expect to receive. But again he tells us not to be afraid and in fact he puts it strongly, "You must not prepare your defense, because I shall give you an eloquence and a wisdom that none of your opponents shall be able to contradict."
Jesus goes on to say that we shall be hated and betrayed by our own families but as usual he ends on a high note, "Your endurance will win you your lives."
Being a Christian in a world that hates Jesus is becoming and shall become ever more difficult but we shall never be deserted by God. The world sees God and Jesus as the enemy and hates them as such. And the world always seems to be winning. But God will not be beaten. That is the promise of all of redemption history. We would do well to dwell on it and believe that fact!
