Reading I: Leviticus 23:1, 4-11, 15-16, 27, 34b-37
Responsorial: Psalm 81:3-4, 5-6, 10-11ab
Gospel: John 11:19-27 or Luke 10:38-42
For this feast we have the unusual choice of two gospels. Most people think of Martha as the busy one in the story of "Mary and Martha", the sister who is always doing the work and complaining about her prayerful sister Mary. What Jesus says to her seems to be a reproof and yet we all know that things have to be done around the house and that if we sat praying all the time the world would soon be in a sorry state. But somehow Martha in this story appears to be in the wrong.
