Feast of St Peter Chrysologus Bishop and Doctor of the Church
We enter into a week of important feasts and the first of these is St Peter Chrysologus.
Born about the year AD380 in a town called Imola in Italy, which is now famous for a car race track, Peter was in his forties before he was made a priest and then bishop of Ravenna. He is famous for the eloquence of his preaching and the depth of his teaching.
Over 180 of his sermons survive to this day and they are still widely used and quoted from.
They are also a great source of understanding for anyone studying the development of doctrine.
The reading for today's office of readings which can be found on Universalis.com is an incredible work of teaching and well worth a read. Such men are rightly remembered in our faith!
