Reading I: Numbers 20:1-13
Responsorial: Psalm 95:1-2, 6-7, 8-9
Gospel: Matthew 16:13-23
Today in this gospel, he asks us a question. It is the most important question we shall ever be asked and we are asked it every day of our lives because it is directly about our relationship with Jesus.
"Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
The answer we give to this question shall effect everything about our lives. If we say Jesus is a great teacher or philosopher then like the Jews, we miss the point of his life altogether. If, hoewever, we say with Peter, "you are the Christ!" then this belief shall utterly change our way of seeing the world. We are saying we acknowledge Jesus as Lord.
Think well before answering. It is too serious a question to deal with lightly!
