Gospel of Mark 6:34-44 Reflection; All the readings of the Mass today focus once again on who Jesus really is. The first reading from the letter of St John says that God's love was revealed when he sent his only son into the world: Psalm 71 has the response, "All nations shall fall prostrate before you, O Lord."
The gospel tells of the multiplication of the loaves and fish to feed the five thousand. Such a miracle is a sign of the power of God.
In this period before the end of the Christmas season (happening this coming weekend with the Baptism of the Lord), we are being encouraged to reflect on these "epiphanies", these showings of the glory of God.
As we reflect on these "epiphanies", we are meant to ask ourselves what do we think of who Jesus is and why this birth of a child had such significance for the world.
