What hits me about today's reading is how Jesus wants to share what he has with us. What is this that Jesus has?
Jesus knows that God is held at hand's length...even though we seek God and want to be near him, we are afraid of actually getting close to God. Most have a feeling of being unworthy and not worth God's time.
Jesus pleads to the "Righteous Father" for us. Just as the Catholic tradition has the saying that what Our Blessed Mother prays for, Jesus grants...because she is his mother and he wants to honor her...Jesus is in the same position with God...how can God neglect the prayers of His only Son? The imagery for us helps us to understand how powerful intercessory prayer is...even Jesus did it! The power of prayer can never be taken for granted. Building one's prayer life is paramount for one's spirituality.
We are coming to Pentecost Sunday - take time in the last days of Easter and ponder on: The Word -- became flesh (alive in our 3-dimensional world), died, resurrected and returned to earth as the Holy Spirit.
Take a few moments (5-10 minutes) in a quiet surroundings and inhale/exhale deep breaths. Realize God's participation in your being. Each breath - is the breath of God - giving you life. But this breath not only affects your body - The Word permeates your complete self - body, soul and spirit. Allow yourself to feel God's closeness in you. What does it mean to you? What do you feel? As in any good relationship - share with God but also stop and listen for The Word within your soul.
