Gospel of John 6:30-35 Reflection:
In today's Gospel, Jesus is teaching the people about the bread of life. The Jews said that Moses gave the people manna in the desert.
Jesus corrects them and says that it was not Moses but his Father who gave them the manna. Then Jesus goes on and says that his Father gives them the bread from heaven. Jesus moves the scene into the present tense; the bread in the desert is past, the bread he is talking about is here and now.
This new bread comes down from heaven and gives light to the world, not like the old bread that only fed the people of Israel.
Then, in response to the people asking for this bread Jesus declares that he is the bread of life and that anyone who believes in him shall never hunger or thirst.
The family of God is now spreading from the Jews out to all mankind. Jesus is the bread of not just the Jews but of everyone. This is all new teaching to the ears of the Jews, and a lot of them can't accept it
