Gospel of John 6:60-69 Reflection:
In this reading we have one of the great proofs of the Real Presence. John tells us that when Jesus insisted that he was the bread of life and that they had to eat his flesh, many of his disciples said that this teaching was too much and they left not to return.
Interestingly enough, Jesus let them go. Had he meant anything less than what his words say, surely he would have called his disciples back and told them what he really meant. But he did not do this.
Then Jesus turns to the apostles and says to them, Well, what about you, what are you going to do? Are you not going with the rest of them?
As usual it is left to poor old Peter to speak on behalf of them all. He speaks up and says, "Lord, to whom shall we go? Yo have the message of eternal life, and we believe; we know that you are the Holy One of God."
Peter was not sure of the theology but he knew that if Jesus said it then it must be true. That is a childlike faith, the faith we all need. Take time and ponder within yourself what the real presence means to you. Do you believe it as Peter did?
