Gospel of Mark 16:9-15 Reflection:
Today we are given the Great Commission, to "Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation."
In Mark's gospel we appear to be given the great commission on the same day as Jesus rises. But this is only a detail, the important point is that the work of Jesus on earth has come to an end and now he is handing over the task of passing on this word to others.
We have been reading in Acts all week about how the apostles put this commission into practice. Following on from yesterday, Peter and John are still in front of the Sanhedrin. The Jews decide to tell them not to proclaim Jesus.
Peter and John basically said that they have to proclaim the Good News because they have to be true to Jesus.
The same issue is arising more and more in today's secular world. The opinion is put forward by secularists that we can believe what we want as long as we keep it out of the public domain.
But we can't do that. That's why there shall always be conflict between we who believe and the people who don't.
Like Peter and John, we still have to be true to the Lord!
