With the Holy Thursday evening Mass, we enter into the Easter Triduum, the Three Days of the passion, death and resurrection of the Lord.
This is the highlight of the Church year. After Mass on Holy Thursday there is no Mass celebrated over the world til the Mass of the Easter Ceremonies which in reality begins Easter Day.
We all know what happens on Good Friday. There is an atmosphere of death and foreboding. In a very real sense, since we cannot attend Mass today there appears to be something missing from the world: for two days Jesus is not with us.
As Christians we should try and reflect today upon what it means that Jesus died on the cross, what relevance has it in our life.
This weekend celebrates the victory of love over hate, good over evil and life over death. Archbishop Romero, when like Jesus, he realised that his work would probably lead him to be killed, said,"If they want to kill me let them do so. As a Christian I do not believe in death without the Resurrection."
