This is one of the most beautiful feasts of the year, the time we remember when Jesus showed the apostles who he really was.
The story in the gospel opens with "six days later."
Later than what? Peter's profession of faith.
When we accept Jesus as Lord in our hearts it gives him permission to show us who he really is. And he leaves us in no doubt.
This was also Jesus' way of preparing the disciples for the trials that lay ahead. There would be times of doubt and fear, but Peter, James and John could look back on this event and remember what they had seen.
It is the same with us. As we begin to accept Jesus as Lord he shows us more and more who he is. And as we have doubts and worries, we recall the lovely touches of faith that God has given us. Jesus never leaves us orphans. He promised us that. Why don't we believe him?
