I was in a bookshop yesterday in Banbridge, Co. Down, and I saw two books about Jesus on sale. Both of them claimed to be the definitive proof that Jesus was not God, was married etc., etc.. There is so much dissension about who Jesus actually is. Today's gospel is about the same theme. The people listening to Jesus could not agree if he was the messiah, a prophet or a mad man. The Pharisees had sent the temple police to arrest him and even they came back confused. Jesus is such a towering personality. Now, after 2000 years, he is still the most dominant person in history. The hatred, and that is all it can be called, of people who write disparagingly of him shows how important a figure he must be. The question continues, "who is this wandering rabbi from Nazareth?" Over the next couple of weeks the drama is played out and his victory in that drama is still with us today. No matter how much the world hates Jesus, the hope of the resurrection can never be taken from us!
