In today's Lenten reflections, the Old Testmanent reading really spoke to me: Wisdom shares with us the thinking of those that would test God in the Old Testament, as well as Jesus, in the New Testament. Using their own understanding, they speculated that God would not allow suffering to befall his Christ. We all can sometimes fall into this misperception: limiting the hand of God, another phrase - testing God. God's blessings in our lives does not mean that we will not encounter bad events. God's blessings is that he is with us in our hurt, pain, anguish. He lets us know that his justice, in his timing and place, will prevail - but for us to let go and trust in him. I love the phrase "justice and mercy shall meet". My mind just stays thinking of this phrase and attempts to phathom how God will do this. Mercy in our definition is forgiving, however, justice demands retribution...and yet God will make both happen at once. What a wonderful, generous and abundunt loving God we have. Fr. Rolheiser, in his wee video clip "On Blessings" gives a very good viewpoint about blessings and what we can expect.
