READING I: Isaiah 40:1-11
RESPONSORIAL: Psalms 96:1-2, 3 and 10ac, 11-12, 13
GOSPEL: Matthew 18:12-14
Advent is a time of joyous expectancy. We should rejoice in the coming of the Lord. This is the time of salvation. For us mere mortals, life has enough hard times, so in this time of joy let us rejoice! So far all the first readings of Advent have been from Isaiah and today is no different. The readings are full of great joy and expectation; "console my people," "prepare a way for the Lord!" Isaiah is saying something wonderful is going to happen in Israel when this great prophet comes. The psalm, number 96 tells us to sing a new song to the Lord, tell the nations his glory, let the heavens and earth be glad, for our God is coming.
