Today we have an account of the creation of the world and man. We are made in the image of God, the world and everything in it has been given to us to look after.
Human nature is such a wonderful thing. The rules laid down by God are simple; care for one another and acknowledge me and look after the world I have given you.
The unfortunate thing about what I see the environmental movement is doing is that they put the cart before the horse; they want to make the environment god and have us serve it.
When we do this, we shift the emphasis from people onto plants and animals etc.
We can still have all we want as long as we leave plenty of green fields for people to look at. But it does not address the issue of starvation.
In a world of plenty why is there hunger? That is the big question to ask. When we look at the environment this way it is the people who come first.
The problem with humanity is that we want more, what we have is never enough.
One of the great things about God stopping to rest on a Sunday when his work was done is that it is a sign that God had created all he wanted to create and that in this world there would be enough for everyone.
Perhaps if we took care of the people, the earth would look after itself!
