Gospel of Matthew 6:7-15 Reflection:
Today we have Matthew's version of the teaching of the Lord's prayer. Many books have been written about this prayer but one thing I have come to realize about it; this prayer was composed by Jesus.
While all the rest of scripture is God and man co-operating, this prayer is in the words of God himself.
That is a mighty thing when you think of it. These words are the words that God would want you to us when you speak to him. Next time you say the Our Father, try to keep this in mind.
How often in life do we know the words we want to hear and do not hear them? Perhaps this is what God is up there doing...hearing a load of words that he does not want to hear but not hearing the words that he had told us he does want to hear!
