In today's gospel we have the beautiful Canticle of Simeon in which the old man thanks God and say, "Now, Master, you can let your servant go in peace."
Simeon, like all of Israel, has been waiting on the Messiah. The Holy Spirit had promised him that he would not see death until he saw the Messiah.
Anna was a prophetess, and she spent her days in the Temple awaiting the arrival of the Lord.
In God's plan all things were coming together to point to the coming of the Messiah. Then Mary arrives with the child, offering him as the first fruits of her womb.
Mary, the Mother of God, bringing God home to his Father's house. What a lovely image. Jesus the Light of the World, being presented to God at the start of his earthly life.
In God's kingdom there are no random accidents; everything has meaning. In our lives there are no random accidents; everything has meaning.
Who would have thought a child brought to the Temple would change the world forever. What random thing will change your world forever?
