7th Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel Reading: Mark 9:14-29
We have in today's Gospel where the disciples were not able to cure a child and the father knew that he needed to bring his petition to Jesus.
This passage can be understood on many levels. What struck me today was how the devil seeing Jesus approach, immediately took possession of the child and started to torment him.
Have you ever noticed that when you made a decision to get closer to God that something happens that seems to come between you and your desire?
Say you make a decision to pray each day and then it gets put aside because of demands from work or family, or have you ever decided to help a charity and this is prevented because the car needs repair?
Well, these might not be coincidences. The devil is real. When he realizes that we are moving towards God he will do everything he can to stop us from getting closer to God.
It is during such times that we have to remember our intent, our desire and ask for the virtue of perseverance. The grace we need to grow in this life can only be gained through prayer.
Remember to pray for help when things just seem to be staking up against you don't try doing it all alone. Jesus can make things happen!
