READING I: Isaiah 55:10-11
RESPONSORIAL: Psalms 34:4-5, 6-7, 16-17, 18-19
GOSPEL: Matthew 6:7-15
In today's Gospel, Jesus teaches the apostles the Lord's Prayer and then goes on to give a dire warning: "if we don't forgive those who wrong us our Father in heaven will not forgive us."
We hear so many say they can't forgive. Forgiveness is a decision. Anyone can make a decision...it is a choice.
Forgiving frees us from so many of life's hurts and yet we are so loathe to forgive.
Anger and hurt makes us feel in control, it justifies our rage and vindicates our assertion that we are not ready to move on. For some reason we are prepared to stay in our bondage, not willing to forgive and allow God to begin healing us.
Rather than choosing to stay miserable creatures, often preferring to wallow in the mud let us choose rather to come out into the sunlight and allow the Grace of God to shine in our hearts, our lives and restore our soul!
