READING I: 1 Samuel 1:9-20
RESPONSORIAL: 1 Samuel 2:1, 4-5, 6-7, 8abcd
GOSPEL: Mark 1:14-20
Here is the important point; Hannah believed and had such faith that she went home content. She was not yet pregnant but she believed that God would do for her what she asked. This is an example of real faith--to ask God for something and to leave it in his hands in trust that he shall fulfill his promise. We can learn much from Hannah. The first reading today is tells us a lot about prayer and faith. Hannah is barren and in her desire for a child she goes to the Temple and pours her heart out. This is real deep prayer when her whole being is begging God for help. The priest comes to her and accuses her of being drunk. She must have been making a bit of a scene. Eli, the priest, listened to her story and told her to go home and the Lord would grant her request.
