READING I: Acts 22:3-16
RESPONSORIAL: Psalms 117:1bc, 2
GOSPEL: Mark 16:15-18
I remember a priest friend of mine once saying that if you wanted proof of the resurrection all you had to do was think of
St Paul and St Peter. Both of these men were changed irrevocably by an encounter with the risen Lord. St Peter, who had denied Christ a few weeks before now became a fearless advocate of his Lord's teaching. St Paul was on the road to Damascus with papers in his hand authorizing him to arrest and imprison followers of the Way, as the new faith was now called. On the road he was knocked off his high horse (this is tradition and not scriptural) and taken into heaven where he met Jesus. This event changed his life.
Our meeting with Jesus may not be as dramatic but every small meeting with him in prayer and adoration is meant to change us a little. All these little changes add up over a lifetime. We may look with envy of Paul's sudden conversion but how many of us would really want to be called to work as he did. God in heaven knows that very small steps is enough for us!!!
