seen in it's completeness
Gospel of Matthew 10:24-38 Reflection:
In these days when everyone seems to be saying that there shall be no judgement here we have Jesus once again talking on the subject. It struck me a while ago that no one speaks more about judgement and giving an account of ourselves than Jesus. He even says that he saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven!
Jesus tells us in today's Gospel reading that 'everything that is covered shall be uncovered, and everything hidden shall be made clear'.
Every thought, every motive for behaviour, shall all be revealed for what they are when the judgement comes. If there is a God there must be justice and that justice must be full and complete.
That's what shall be revealed more than anything else; our motives. How much were our actions driven by fear, greed, anger or whatever else.
And then we shall see those actions in our lives which we did even though we knew we were wrong and rejecting God.
The actions driven by fear etc. will not carry nearly as much condemnation as those driven by pure selfishness, lust greed and so on.
And what is worst, Jesus shall say nothing. He shall just stand there as love and the truth....and our lives shall be naked before us.....frightening even now.
I hope I have the courage to ask for mercy, and remember that he is an all merciful God.
