which should you choose?
Gospel of Matthew 7:26, 12-14 Reflection:
In today's gospel, Jesus gives what seems to be practical advice to his followers. The first is to not throw your pearls in front of pigs.
What is Jesus talking about?
Jesus is letting us know that when we enter the Christian life and begin to understand something of the ways of God, not to go around telling people who are uninterested about what you are now understanding. Many will scorn and mock and cast up about your old life and make fun of you.
Until we are well developed in the Christian life we should hold our counsel.
Next, Jesus tells us to treat others as we would want them to treat us. And he goes even further when he says that this principle is the meaning of the Law and the Prophets.
Finally Jesus tells us to enter by the narrow gate, as the road to perdition is wide and spacious. We should enter by the narrow gate.
What does this mean? Many things, but one is that the way of the world always appears easiest at first. On the face of it, the Christian choice is always the more difficult, but in the long run it leads to freedom and joy.
A very practical gospel!
