Tobit 1:3;2:1-8 Reflection:
Today we have another Old Testament reading and in it we find a strikingly similar story as to what happens after the death of Jesus.
Tobit is sitting enjoying a feast for one of the Jewish Holy Days when he hears news that a man has been killed in the market place. He does not know the man but he takes him home and pays respect to the body and buries him.
Joseph of Arimethea did the same thing. He paid respect to the dead and buried Jesus in his own tomb. In Jewish tradition it was important to pay respect to the dead.
But with Tobit, his actions had gotten him into trouble for burying an unknown man; it as the reading tells us: 'a price had been put on my head earlier for this very thing.'
Doing the right thing sometimes costs us. It cost Jesus his life and there are so many examples down the centuries of men and women who have had to sacrifice a lot to do what is right.
I wonder what we are called to stand up for and to do as Christians, even if it costs us something dear to us.
