Tobit 3:1-11, 16-17 Reflection:
There are some beautiful stories in the Old Testament and this is surely one of them.
Tobit is in a fit of depression and wants to end it all. He can see no reason in his life why God should have deserted him; he is at the end of his tether.
His kinswoman Sarah was also being insulted at the same time by one of her maids. Sarah had been engaged seven times and each time they had died before the marriage. The demon Asmodeus was blamed for this.
She too was suicidal and could see no way out. She cried to God for help.
God sent the angel Raphael to their aid; He heard their prayers.
That is the way God sometimes works with us. He lets us go to the point where we think we can take no more and then he steps in an takes control of the situation.
He often does that; just when things cannot get any worse he resolves the situation. He is a God of surprises.
We should reflect often on the way that God works in our lives. As Christians we do not believe in coincidences; we believe in God-incidences.
