Tobit 6:10-11,7:1,9-14,8:4-9 Reflection
The first reading today contains several clips from Tobit but they all point to one lesson; the way that God is involved in our lives.
That's what was different about the God of the Jews, he was intimately involved in the lives of his people. God has chosen Tobias, the son of Tobit, to be the husband of Sarah and nothing was going to stand in his way.
God allowed a devil to kill seven men to keep Sarah for Tobias. Looked at from today's perspective that might seem cruel but you have to remember that these are folk stories which may or may not relate an actual event.
However, the important part communicated is that God is interested in every detail of our lives and wants us to be happy in the way that he wants us to be.
He does not force himself on us but he has a plan for us. There is also another point in this story. Sometimes God intervenes directly in a person's life in a powerful way and the person cannot even see what is really going on.
Seen in this light, all these stories carry a great message.
