Gospel of John 4:43-54 Reflection:
"This was the second sign given by Jesus."
These words from today's gospel show us that John saw the miracles of Jesus as signs.
Signs are something that point us to something else, as a signpost points us to a town or an advertising sign points us to a particular product.
What were the signs that Jesus used to point?
Jesus tells us himself in another part of the gospel when he is talking to the pharisees: if you don't believe me, believe the signs I work.
There are signs in all our lives; the feeling of love we have for our children, the friendships of those around us.
But what are the signs of Jesus? His coming to us at Mass, his forgiveness in the sacrament of reconciliation, his speaking to us in prayer.
There are more. But Jesus is always there, always talking if we but listen, always acting if we only see.
When we begin to look with the eyes of faith and find God in everything then we have no difficulty to see more and more signs worked by Jesus. In the words of St John of the Cross, "find God in everything".
