has made the Son the source of life;
and, because he is the Son of Man,
has appointed him supreme judge.
Gospel of John 5:17-30 Reflection:
Today, Jesus speaks of the relationship between himself and the Father;
"The Father loves the son."
"The Father has entrusted all judgement to the son."
"For the Father who is the source of all life has made the son the source of life."
These are the phrases, and there are more, that Jesus uses to describe the relationship between him and the Father. No wonder he drove the poor Pharisees crazy. They knew exactly what he was saying; "I am God as the Father is God." Make no mistake about it, Jesus was saying plainly that he is equal to the Father.
We tend to get mixed up about Jesus. Either we think too much that he is God or we focus on his manhood: the mystery of the person of Jesus is what the world cannot understand.
That is why today he is still the most divisive character in history; we all know that he is something really unique but some of us can't accept how truly unique he is.
We Christians say he is God and man. Now that is someone very very special!
