We have a pope, and what a pope he shall be. As the divide between the spiritual and secular world becomes more pronounced, the secularists shall do everything they can to discredit the Church and the Holy Father.
The secularists are like the Jews of today's first reading from Exodus (32:7-14). They have turned their back on God and have followed a golden calf, believing that they can buy happiness. The God of this world is money and self sufficiency.
In the same way the Jews wanted a God that they could see and who made them feel secure. That is not our God. Our God is a God of faith. He is also a God who is very close to us when we allow ourselves to love and be loved by him.
Moses shows this when he speaks to God who threatens to wipe out the people of Israel when he sees them worshiping a false God. Moses talks to God as a friend, a closeness that is awesome when you realize that this is the God who made the universe.
From what we have seen of Pope Francis, he looks like a man who could talk to God very freely, who could intervene on behalf of this crazy secular world.
We live in interesting times! Oh, by the way do you know he is from Argentina? First pope elected outside the Mediterranean countries but more important than that...my wife is from Argentina, she can't stop smiling from ear to ear.
