READING I: Esther C:12, 14-16, 23-25
RESPONSORIAL: Psalms 138:1-2ab, 2cde-3, 7c-8
GOSPEL: Matthew 7:7-12
Jesus gives us a promise today; if we pray we shall always be answered. But then we think of the times when we do not receive the answer to the prayer that we would like. We ask for healing for a friend and they die. How is that prayer answered?
We don't know for sure, but we can say that death is a part of life and that often people we pray for get a strength at death to face the next world in peace. Or when a young person has an accident and is left badly injured. Where is our prayer answered there? And yet they somehow adjust and find fulfillment.
These are all mysteries, but we have Jesus' word for it and Jesus does not and cannot lie. There is at the heart of our faith a great mystery; God loves us and sometimes we in our limited experience cannot see this; we have to walk on in faith and experience his love!
